| The Mantis Steps Back from Fighting for a While |

FAMILY
After a run of success not seen or done by many, Matt Doherty needs to take a breath. Matt had a fight of the night in a tough loss to AFO 125 pro champ, Kody Nordby, followed by the "upset" of the year over top-ranked ammy Rico Discuillo for the AFO title. For most competitors, these two fights would be more than enough reason for a decent break. But with his face still showing bruises from the punches of Rico he cruised into the Greater Lowell Golden Gloves Tournament and WON. He fought 3 tough three-round fights, giving the crowd everything they wanted for the title.
Then enter his fourth fight....Matt went in sick as a dog to fight a 9-1 pure boxer puncher who went on to win the New England tourney. He hit Matt with everything he had for 2 rounds with so much power he hurt his ankle from being out for a second and this what not even when he was knocked down. He came back to the corner and said he was sick and he was tired, but he would continue, and he won round 3 on pure heart. Something anyone who knows him has gotten used to.
The ankle injury never could really heal because he was scheduled for not 1 but 2 title fights and his training had to pick up. During this time, he had issues outside the gym and just couldn't mentally or physically commit like he had in the past. He is still a part of TPS and always will be, but right now he is taking time off to take care of things outside the cage and get his fire back. This is a story because at TPS no one really takes time off between fights. We are ready 24-7-365. We all support Matt and embrace him as the brother that he will always be as we move forward with him there to cheer our fighters on! And move forward our team will do! With our recent additions, Matt has plenty to cheer about!
When he does come back, I am sure Matt will be bringing the pain with him. He is a fighter by nature so there is nothing he can't overcome and nothing our team won't do for each other. People say they are “like family;” we ARE a family, and together we can accomplish ANYTHING!!!!
We would like to apologize for fights we had to pull out of, but Matt has always accepted any challenges so I hope people understand how serious Matt is about fixing his outside life and finding peace within himself. We just want to clarify the situation so no one has to wonder why he isn't fighting for the Cage Titans title.
